Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

What is COPD?

COPD is a group of long-term conditions caused by damage to the lungs, which can make it difficult to breathe.1,2

When patients have COPD, the air sacs inside their lungs may collapse when breathing in and the airways may become inflamed and narrowed.1,2

Symptoms

Patients with COPD may experience some of the following symptoms, which can make it harder to carry out everyday tasks:2

 
Increasing shortness of breath when active
Increasing shortness of breath when active
Frequent chest infections
Frequent chest infections
Persistent wheezing and a chesty cough
Persistent wheezing and a chesty cough

How is COPD treated?

Inhaled medicines are usually used to treat COPD to help patients manage their symptoms.2,3

What is STRIVERDI® Respimat®?

STRIVERDI® Respimat® contains a medicine called olodaterol. It belongs to a group of medicines called long-acting bronchodilators, which help to open the airways and make it easier to get air in and out of the lungs. STRIVERDI® Respimat® helps adult patients who have COPD to breathe more easily.3

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Some uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people) which may be experienced when taking STRIVERDI® Respimat® include symptoms of common cold, dizziness and rash.

Stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor straight away if you notice any of the following serious side effects – you may need urgent medical treatment:

  • Immediate allergic reactions such as rash, nettle rash (urticaria), swelling of the mouth and face or sudden difficulties in breathing (angioneurotic oedema)
  • Unexpected tightness of the chest, coughing or wheezing or breathlessness immediately after inhalation (bronchospasm).3
